Coulter: Having No "Faith" is Worse than Having the Wrong One

Religious conservative journalist Ann Coulter on Obama being a Muslim:

The nonsense about President Obama being a Muslim has got to stop. I rise to defend him from this absurd accusation by pointing out that he is obviously an atheist.

All liberals are atheists.

"Liberal" is obviously a dirty word, and so is "atheist" to conservatives. Essentially Coulter is saying that liberal = atheist. To the religious conservative, an atheist is devoid of morality. Only God can command you to be moral, so if you don't believe in God and His commandments, you must be immoral. Coulter's argument is that Obama is worse than a Muslim (a believer) - he is an atheist (a nonbeliever). A Muslim, in her eyes, is at least God-fearing, and therefore must have some ounce of morality. The atheist is a demon, willing to do anything without thought of the consequences to himself or others. But Obama's morality is faith based - faith in the state to force individuals into utopian obedience. Faith is incompatible with reality. Whether your faith is in the Christian or Muslim god, or in the overwhelming power of the state, reality will prove that you are wrong. This is the lesson that conservatives are incapable of learning and are unwilling to see that they are in essence no different from their liberal counterparts.

Atheism is usually associated with various socialist ideologies. Atheism is grounded in reality; socialism is not. Therefore, holding both points of view would be contradictory. The socialist might say "I don't believe in God", but that is different from saying "I believe in an objective reality" or "I don't have faith". A socialist atheist is cherry picking which aspects of reality to accept.  Faith requires rejecting reality; an atheist should embrace and respect it, knowing that reality is all there is and holds the resources for a happy, productive existence.
