Rush Concert Tonight

Rush is playing tonight in Irvine. I've never seen them before. I've been a casual fan for about ten years but have been listening to them a lot more frequently since seeing their R:30 concert video on Palladia which is highly recommended (Palladia has also been showing the Rush documentary Beyond the Lighted Stage which is excellent). They will be playing their classic album Moving Pictures in its entirety. I'm really a fan of their musicianship, although I know that some people were introduced to Ayn Rand through their album 2112 (which is loosely based on Anthem). I became a fan of Rush in the opposite manner: when I asked a friend how he became acquainted with Rand's work he said through Rush, which made me want to check them out. But their music is more appealing to me than their lyrical subject matter, although they do have some good themes: the immorality of egalitarianism (The Trees); the individual against the state (2112 and Red Barchetta); the melding of music, technology and capitalism (Spirit of Radio); the optimistic, heroic individual (Tom Sawyer).

Can't wait!

  1. It will be awesome to see RUSH perform MOVING PICTURES in it’s entirety. I was able to see Rush 3 times on the original Moving Pictures tour, Max Webster opened for them in Louisville Ky, It was so awesome!! Thanks Ticketwood.com for offering me discounted Rush Tickets . They were using a movie screen behind them that projected really cool images during the show. They were so far ahead of everyone else at the time… and still are.
